You know it’s driving me up the wall. Every day I tell myself that this evening after work I’ll sort it out, but do I? No. My spare room is still my junk room.

When we first moved into our two bedroom terrace I was so excited. It was our first house and we actually owned it (well technically the bank we have our mortgage with owns most of it but we’re the ones on the title deeds). Previous to this we had rented a one bedroom flat so there were two things that I was most excited about. Firstly, the garden and secondly, the spare room.  

Sadly three years on all my plans for that beautiful spare room have been shattered. There’s no gorgeously decorated guest room and neither is there a sophisticated study. You see upon moving into the house all our boxes of ‘things’ (junk) that we couldn’t seem to find a home for have ended up in the spare room. It’s also the room where we keep the hoover, the ironing board, the carpet cleaner, the drier, the laundry, our wardrobe, our books, etc, etc and so on and so on.

So what can I do? I know I have to get in there and sort it all out. After all if it’s junk then surely I can just throw it all away? I have tried though. Many a time I’ve made a pile of things to take to the charity shop but when I go to bag it all up I think to myself ‘maybe I might want to read that book again one day’ or ‘I might lose some weight, in which case those jeans will fit me again’. Although I never do and I probably never will.

So apart from a more assertive ‘get rid of things’ attitude any suggestions on how I can transform my room from junk to spare?
